In Vietnam's hot and humid climate, Hitachi air conditioners are a top choice for cooling in homes, offices, and businesses due to their deep cooling capabilities, quiet operation, and exceptional durability. However, after continuous operation, dust and dirt accumulate on the filters and heat exchangers, hindering airflow and directly affecting the unit's heat exchange efficiency. To ensure smooth operation, extend lifespan, and maintain a clean atmosphere, proper maintenance and care are crucial. In this article, U.P Tech will share detailed important considerations for cleaning Hitachi air conditioners to maximize cooling efficiency.

The importance of regular cleaning of Hitachi air conditioners

Many users tend to only perform maintenance on their appliances when technical problems occur, such as poor cooling, water leaks, or strange noises. However, maintaining a habit of cleaning the appliance regularly every 3-6 months offers practical benefits:

  • Maintain the ability to cool deeply and quickly: Preventing dust and dirt from clogging the heat exchanger allows the refrigerant (such as R32 or R410A) to exchange heat efficiently.
  • Optimizing energy efficiency: Thanks to the integration of advanced Cascade Vector DC Inverter technology, Hitachi air conditioners can flexibly adjust the compressor's rotation speed. When the heat exchanger is clear, the unit does not have to operate under excessive load, thereby maximizing electricity cost savings.
  • Maximize the effectiveness of air filtration: This specialized filter system helps remove up to 99% of bacteria, allergens, and fine dust.
  • Protecting components and enhancing durability: Cleaning the drip tray and drain pipe helps prevent condensate leaks, protecting the fire-resistant electrical insulation and housing from corrosion.

Important notes when cleaning your Hitachi air conditioners

When performing maintenance yourself or supervising technicians, you need to be familiar with certain safety rules and the advanced design features of Hitachi air conditioners:

1. Completely disconnect the power supply before proceeding

To ensure safety and avoid the risk of short circuits in the control board, you must disconnect the circuit breaker (CB) supplying power to the air conditioner at least 15 minutes before cleaning. This time allows the capacitors inside to discharge any excess electricity.

2. Be cautious with the Stainless Pre-Filter and Wasabi filter

Unlike conventional models, Hitachi air conditioners feature a Nano Titanium Stainless Pre-Filter made of extremely durable and dirt-resistant stainless steel. You can easily remove the front panel (Washable Detachable Front Panel) and rinse the stainless steel filter with clean water.

However, regarding the included Wasabi-infused PM2.5 filter, you must absolutely avoid soaking or scrubbing it in water or spraying it with harsh cleaning chemicals. The natural Wasabi extract is capable of eliminating 99% of bacteria, providing 95% allergy protection, neutralizing 82% of odors, and inhibiting 98% of mold (VOCs). You should only use a low-power vacuum cleaner or a soft brush to gently remove dust from the filter's surface.

3. Shield the control board and heatsink

When using a high-pressure water spray to clean the outdoor condenser and evaporator coils, you need to carefully cover the fire-resistant electrical box area with a specialized tarpaulin. Avoid spraying high-pressure water directly onto the PC board or squirrel cage fan motor.

4. Check the condensate tray and the antibacterial module

For Hitachi ducted cassette or concealed ceiling air conditioners (such as the airCore 600 or Primairy series), the integrated drip tray is equipped with an antibacterial module and an automatic float valve. It is necessary to clean away accumulated dirt to prevent clogging of the condensate drain pipe.

Standard technical procedure for cleaning Hitachi air conditioners

To ensure the machine operates reliably and maintains ultra-quiet operation at just 27 dB(A), you should follow these 5 standard maintenance steps:

Step 1: Remove the plastic mask and dust filter: Gently open the latch on the indoor unit's front panel, remove the stainless steel pre-filter, and take out the wasabi PM2.5 filter.

Step 2: Rinse the steel filter and wipe the machine casing: Use a low-pressure spray to rinse the steel filter from the back to the front to remove dirt and dust. Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe the outer plastic casing.

Step 3: Clean the indoor unit: Using a specialized cover, spray air conditioner cleaning solution onto the aluminum fins of the heat exchanger. Wipe clean the squirrel cage fan and the inner walls of the indoor unit.

Step 4: Maintain the outdoor condenser unit: Spray and rinse the condenser fins. Note that Hitachi condensers are coated with a special anti-corrosion protective layer (Green Fin / Blue Fin Hydrophilic Coating) combined with a rust-resistant metal frame (Anti-rust casing) to provide maximum protection for the condenser against humid tropical climates.

Step 5: Reassemble and test the machine: Allow the filter to air dry naturally, then reinstall it in the indoor unit and close the front panel. Turn on the circuit breaker and run the Hitachi air conditioner in Cool mode for 15-20 minutes to check the cooling performance and airflow.
